RuneScape
I started playing RuneScape when I was in the middle of high school, around age 15. I saw the boys in my class playing a game and I asked what it was. They told me it was RuneScape, so I made an account to check it out when I got home. It was the start of a full-on addiction, until I was about 19.
There was a brief period that I met a noob in game and offered my account to him. He gratefully accepted it. Sometime later, maybe a year or 2, I decided I wanted to play again. I tried to log into my account with my original username and password, and to my surprise, it worked! I could see he had actually levelled up some skills. I felt kind of bad for doing this, but I changed my password and locked him out. I then saw I had received a warning and he had tried to sell my account in game lol, so I no longer felt bad locking him out.
I kept playing until I made a semi decent mid-level account. I thought I was wise, but I still got lured into the wilderness and lost my Bandos armour, worth 40 mil at the time. It was my pride and joy and took me so long to get, so I quit. I remember being lured in the morning and then having to pull myself together to go into work all day.
Then I learned about botting, and I would go to work and keep a fishing bot running to make back my gp (and get 99 fishing!). 99 fishing came, so then I botted 99 thieving. Eventually I got bored of the game, and cheating on it, so I just stopped playing.
Every few years, I'd log back on to check my account was still okay, and that's when I saw that RuneScape wasn't RuneScape anymore! It looked like I was logged into World of Warcraft after their big update, and I never properly played the game again.
Old School RuneScape (OSRS)
I heard that the team at RuneScape decided to recreate RuneScape as it was in 2007. I was pumped about this and joined around 2017 on a brand-new account. I put 3 years of a lot of effort into that account, and long surpassed where I was originally on RuneScape. I accomplished level 99 cooking, firemaking, woodcutting, farming, and runecrafting too! I have always loved farming and I hated RC until I learned how to do blood runes. It's pretty chill and AFK, so getting 99 runecrafting was easy enough while I was studying. Before quitting part way through 2020 due to boredom and burnout, I finished all the quests and most requirements for the diaries. I got 3 pets too, and was even "awarded" the farming pet twice.
Updates
It's the 3rd of Feb 2026, and yesterday I decided to renew my membership for 14 days and check the game out. I've already chompy hunted, done herb runs, birdhouse runs, some sailing, and now I am eel fishing. I love this game so much although it feels very complicated to get back into. I am going to forget about trying to know everything, and being efficient. I just want to do whatever I want to do, when I want it. If I stick to it, I will have goals to work towards, because it's the nature of the game and part of the fun, but I want to approach it differently so I can just have fun ultimately. I like to play games to unwind and relax, so bossing and combat has never been something I really enjoy. I much prefer skilling, and I like to train my combat/ranged/magic through slayer tasks. I honestly wish I could say I liked bossing, but it feels like too much risk for me and too stressful on my heart haha.
It's the 15th of March, and I've been really into OSRS. It's the only game other than Pokémon Go that I've been playing lately. I have done a lot of quests, and only have 15 more to go before I get my Quest cape back. I've done lots of herb runs and some treehouse runs for GP. I've done a bit of Hespori which is so nice and easy with RuneLite! That got me started on Hunter rumours, which I have done a few hours of and want to try more of. I then got heavily into Guardians of the Rift, with the goal of getting an Abyssal needle. I finally got it, after 1,117 rewards!! That was a whole lot of games to play and I was starting to go crazy, cause the drop rate is 1/300.
I also got my sailing up, with quests, some port tasks and salvage, and good old Tears of Guthix. It's lvl 57 and really afk to do salvaging. I'm currently thinking about what I do next. My membership runs out in 2 days and Jagex just hiked the prices up x_x but I think I'm already too into it and don't want to stop playing.
It's the 27th of June (still 2026), and I haven't played OSRS for 2 months now. It was a ball while it lasted. There's no point in playing if I'm not truly into it, and it's only for FOMO or XP gains. I was also spending way too much time playing it, when there's stuff in real life I need to tend to. So I am currently taking a break. It feels right and comfortable for me. :) Before I stopped playing, I changed my username for the first time ever to Retroville, which is the name of the town from Jimmy Neutron, and a song title I like. I got to lvl 95 fishing, and after over 1000 games of Guardian of the Rift, I finally got my colossal pouch. I did some more questing, and plenty of running around aimlessly. I noticed the wildy is a lot more chill these days. I could actually walk around a lot without anyone trying to pk me.
Goals
If/when (lets be honest, it’s most likely when) I return to OSRS, I would like to finish these goals:
Have fun! [x]
Learn sailing [x] and train it up to lvl 50 [x]
Finish all “new” quests so I can once again wear my Quest Cape [ ]
Finish all Elite diaries [ ]
Accomplish level 99 fishing [ ]
Train agility more and find a method I like that is a good balance of AFK and fun [ ]
