My name is Jazz, and I wanted my own corner of the internet that reminds me of the old internet that I grew up on; the internet that felt like an adventure with other far away humans, before algorithms controlled what we see. I was born in the early 90’s and live in Australia, and I love the feeling of nostalgia. I grew up on Pokémon, Neopets, Habbo Hotel, and RuneScape. In recent years, I've been obsessed with my Switch, playing a ton of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. In real life, I love photography and have gotten pretty decent at it.
As a kid, I spent so many hours surfing the web, looking at websites people had made and coded themselves, to share cool pixel art, their musings and interests, or to share their walkthrough on a game they enjoy. I was never good at HTML, so I mostly indulged instead of sharing. Back around 2006 for a brief period, I had a MatMice website and a Freewebs website, under a free .tk domain. Man, those were the days! I wish I could find them, as cringey as they would be to read.
So why Neocities?
I miss the innocence of the internet I knew when I was little, and I hope to add to some of that magic back to the internet. Long ago, people were excited to connect with others they would have never been able to otherwise talk to. There was a lot of fun and optimism to be had surfing the web. Web design was crude, and that was the beauty of it, even if we didn’t know it at the time. Corporations didn’t control everything we consume. A lot of information was accessed on forums by users with shared passions.
I’m probably autistic like a lot of us here, lol, and I spend way too much time in my head fixating on my interests. It’s cathartic to have a space to info dump and offload to my heart’s content. I might be yelling into the void, but it’s my void and I like it. If you or anyone else enjoy this space, then that’s just a big bonus.
