JAZZ'S INTERNET EMPORIUM

Sonic the Hedgehog

My first gaming console was the SEGA, which I still have 2 of in my storage cupboard. I would have only been about 4 when dad brought it home, set it up, and in went Sonic. My sister and I spent so many hours playing this game, and with her being the older one, she controlled Sonic while I played as Tails. When my sister annoyed me, I would use Tails to crash into an enemy or something in game that would cause me to lose rings lol. It annoyed me that she always got to play as Sonic but that's just what happens when you have an older sibling. Sometimes we would make it to the final level, the Egg boss fight, and dad would do his best to help out. I don't think we ever beat the game. Maybe once? Who knows.

I've played both games so many times, and was always a "Sonic kid" since we didn't ever own a Nintendo console until I got a Nintendo DS when I was a teen. I didn't play many other Sonic games since my parents were poor and couldn't afford the newer games. As a teen, I would play any Flash-based Sonic game I could find online, and I liked to imagine they were hacks of Game Boy Advance Sonic games.

I have this memory of being at my rich cousin's house when I was a kid, and playing this Sonic game where they were on a tropical island, and through research I found it was the Sonic Adventure game, and the level was Emerald Coast. We played on the Sega Dreamcast console. I've just always had a thing for low-poly beach graphics, which this level is the epitome of. I'm not generally into 3D Sonic games, since I prefer the 2D platforming style, but this was really novel to play and I never forgot about it.

The first level on Sonic 1 called Green Hill Zone is my fav (Spring Yard Zone looks visually cool), but these are by far my favs on Sonic 2. I love bouncing around underwater on Aquatic Ruin Zone, or just going super fast and avoiding the water, and then the boss battle is cool. The whole level of Casino Night Zone is just awesome. The only annoying thing is the weird snail enemies that cause me to lose my rings lol. I have never been to Las Vegas but if I ever go, I expect it to feel like this level. I also LOVE Emerald Hill Zone because it's basically Green Hill Zone version 2.

Current day...

Now in 2026, I have a decent laptop and a hacked Nintendo 2DS where I have been playing fan-made Sonic games, along with some roms of Gomeboy Advance Sonic games. I recently played through Sonic Galactic and LOVED it. The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is great, the level design is stellar, and the gameplay is just super fun. It basically feels like an official Sega game. Sometimes for the fun of it, I replay Sonic 2 HD and Sonic Utopia demo. Both are a whole lot of fun and I hope one day both projects will be picked back up and completed.
