The Simpsons

The Simpsons is one of my all time favourite TV shows. It started when I was 4, in the loungeroom of my old house. It was around 6 in the evening when I saw a new cartoon pop up on TV that I hadn't seen before. I saw yellow people, and my attention was fixed on it. Dad changed the channel after a minute, to which I protested. Mum told me I was too young to watch it.

Finally when I was around 10, I was allowed to start watching it. My fixation hit it's all time high when I was around 12. I'd seen all the episodes that existed, many times over. I knew about the most random trivia to do with the show, thanks to a book I got as a present. When I went to the country side to visit my mums side of the family, the highlight was getting some money to visit the newsagency to buy a comic book.

One time I was in Sydney on a holiday when I was a young teengaer, and we had flown there on a plane. I was walking down the street with my family and found a few cardboard boxes full of The Simpsons comics. It was like winning the lotto and being unable to claim it. I didn't have room in my luggage to take them with me, so I kept walking with my family and left them behind.

My book shelf in my childhood bedroom was a shrine to the show. I met a kid who LOVED The Simpsons like I did, and I ended up giving him almost all of my collection. I have no regrets knowing how happy he was, but I'd be lying if I said I don't miss some of that stuff. I've gone back as an adult and brought some cool stuff online that I had when I was a kid, and I'm so excited to see all the new merch that gets released. I even have a secret Instagram page where I share photos of merch that I buy and see in stores. You'd be amazed how much stuff you find in op shops.

My interest in the show fell off after around season 10, as it did for a lot of people. A goal of mine right now is to watch every single episode of the show to catch up, and currently I am up to around season 32 (as of October 2024).
